Indoor Air Quality
The reason we are interested in HEPA filters is to improve indoor air quality. But what exactly does this mean?
Indoor air quality (IAQ) can be defined as "the nature of indoor air that affects the health and well-being of occupants." More specifically, indoor air quality refers to the level of contaminants found in indoor air spaces.
There are many things which affect the quality of indoor air. The heating and air-conditioning systems found in most homes consist of many components which must work together efficiently. A problem in any of these components can reduce the quality of the indoor air.
The duct work, in particular, must allow air circulation throughout the house. This means an adequate number of air intakes and returns, without which the air in certain rooms or certain parts of rooms may stagnate. Unless the air is constantly circulated, moisture buildup can affect the overall indoor air quality.
HEPA Filters and Modern Housing
Modern airtight housing places much greater demands on the ductwork and heating and cooling systems. By reducing the amount of outside air, there is even greater need for adequate air circulation within the house.
One of the biggest problems in heating and cooling systems is the production of mold which is caused by a buildup of moisture. Mold production can be kept under control by an adequate system of fans which will keep the air constantly circulating.
A major source of air contaminants comes from building materials and furnishing. Carpeting, wall paneling and upholstered furniture emit contaminants and unless the air is cleaned by an air filtration systems such as a HEPA air filter system they will wind up in the lungs and blood streams of the inhabitants.
The air filtration system plays an important role in improving the indoor air quality. The air circulation system must be properly rated for the type of air filtration. Due to their high efficiency, HEPA filters require more powerful fans than other types of air filter systems. If you are installing a new HEPA filter system, you may also have to revamp your existing existing air circulation system.

Is it necessary to do the testing of HEPA filter having 99.95% Efficiency.
Is there any guideline which states to do so?
Thanks & Regards
